✔ Speaker : Mr. Son Pham, Ph.D. in computer science and computational biology - University of California.
✔ Topic : Algorithms in modern biology: New opportunities and challenges.
✔Time : 9:00 - 11:00am ; Friday 03/03/2017
✔Place: Lecture Hall, John von Neumann Institute, Linh Trung Ward, Thu Duc Dist, HCMC.
✔ Abstract : The complete human genetic code (DNA) was released in 2003 and marked an important milestone in the development of biotechnology and medical research in this century. However, the algorithmic idea for decoding it can be traced back 300 years to the Prussian city of Konigsberg, where the great mathematician Leonard Euler made a conceptual breakthrough in graph theory to solve the Seven Bridge problem. Indeed, computational science is now becoming an indispensable part of modern biology and medicine.
In this talk, Son Pham will introduce the algorithm to assemble the human genome and its development in the last decade. He will discuss open algorithmic challenges in this area and will brainstorm with the audience how talented Vietnamese students can enter this field to help solve these unsolved challenges.
